Hallowell Printing Company's roots go back as far as 1928. The business was known then as Hallowell Press and was operating out of a building across from its present-day location at 145 Water Street in Hallowell, Maine. Hallowell Press was associated with the publishing industry, publishing being a large part of the Kennebec Valley work-force in the early to middle part of the 1900's.

Everett Garland, who owned the business from the early 1960's until 1972, operated as a small-job printing business.

Lannes B. Williams purchased the business from the Garland family in 1972. Don Hastings was hired as a Press Operator and to help run production. Over the next nine years, Williams' Press of Hallowell, dba Hallowell Printing Company, evolved into the age of offset printing.

In 1981, Don and Debbie Hastings purchased the business and Hallowell Printing Company grew rapidly over the next five years.

On April 1, 1987, the Kennebec River swelled over its banks, 36 feet above flood level, dumping nearly six feet of water over the Hallowell Printing Company presses on the facility's first floor. That one experience set the company back a few years with losses estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Armed with a dedicated staff and hundreds of loyal customers, Don and Debbie worked tirelessly over the next several years to rebuild the business.

Since then, with investments in modernized equipment and the hiring of more dedicated staff, Hallowell Printing Company has become recognized as one of Central Maine's most respected businesses.

Don continues his role as President and CEO, spending a great deal of his time on the road, selling and promoting Hallowell Printing Company.

Many Central Maine businesses, as well as businesses along Maine's coast (Rockland and Camden area) depend on Hallowell Printing Company for high quality, dependable, and fairly-priced printing services.
